8 Parenting Tips for Working Parents from Dr Kaylene Henderson
I had the privilege of meeting child psychiatrist Dr Kaylene Henderson recently. The lovely Kaylene had flown to Perth from her home in the Eastern states to share her parenting tips on ‘Being Your Best in Both Worlds’ for working parents. The free event was organised by Clan Midland and hosted by Ace Cinemas at Midland Gate. I was actually part of the Rock N Toddle Gigs for Kids team, and entertained the kids so the parents could listen to the talk […]
6 Ways to Help the Homeless in Perth
Last night I had the honour of performing my original songs at the Sleep Out Under the Stars event. It was a fundraiser for St Patrick’s Community Support Centre, who help the homeless in Perth by providing food and other services. The goal was to raise $10,000. It was a beautiful evening of likeminded souls gathering together to make a difference. We were entertained all evening with an outdoor concert in the stunning courtyard at Notre Dame University.
How Do You Get Involved with a Charity?
How do you get involved with a charity you can trust? Someone I know has always insisted that all charities are scammers. I’ve heard other people say they don’t trust charities. These are excuses people use so they can justify not being generous!! People who work for charities are amazing. They have chosen to work for a cause with a lot less pay than if they were working somewhere else. It’s basically a business, for example like a bank, but instead […]
How Nannup Music Festival Motivates Kids to Learn an Instrument
On the long weekend, my family and I had an AMAZING time at Nannup music festival– I’m still buzzing with excitement! On our way home we bought a cello off Gumtree, for my son Kale, who couldn’t wait to start practicing! Now Kale is our genius kid who has perfect pitch. When you play a particular note on an instrument, he can tell you exactly what note you’re playing, just from the sound of it!
University Entrance through a Tip School in Cambodia
It’s that time when things get a bit hectic in the lead up to the new school year in Australia! Some of the things whirling around in my mind: the logistics of having four primary school aged kids going to three different schools, buying iPads, wondering if my kindy kid who goes on alternate Wednesdays starts next Wednesday or not, being at home alone for the first time as an adult because my baby will be in kindy, wondering if I’m […]
Christmas for the Homeless in Perth
Last night I was asked to sing for a Christmas dinner for 100 homeless people in the middle of Perth City. I have done some pretty amazing gigs this year but I’d have to say this one tops the list as the most meaningful gig. It was organised by Sim and Jane from Homelessness; We Care- Perth Western Australia, who recruited a team of 60 volunteers to cook and serve dinner to the guests. There was a visit from Mother Santa who handed out […]
Teach Kids to Save Money- Interview with Lacey Filipich from Money School
Teach Kids to Save Money My kids and their bookworm friends created a book club this year, called ‘Imagine Hope and Pepper Stories’, where the kids read the same book and talked about it together. One of the books they read was ‘Bunny Money’ by Lacey White (now Lacey Filipich), founder of Money School. This book is a tool which can teach kids to save money. In a nutshell the book is about two twin bunnies, Nate and Nessa. On their 10th birthday, […]
Beauty From Ash’s on 96FM Perth
People have been asking me about how I got my daughter Ashleya to be the featured guest on 96FM Perth for a whole week! Well, the truth is, it wasn’t anything to do with me! So the Beauty From Ash’s story starts about a year ago when Ash (10) won $1000 for waving a Weet Bix sign at the cricket and decided to start a natural lip balm business with the prize money, donating $2 from each pot sold to […]
My Family’s Experience with the X Factor
I’ve written this blog post because I’ve received countless messages from people asking me what happened with the X Factor. So this is the story of what happened! I’m not the type to queue up and audition for a show like the X Factor! X Factor phoned me and invited me to audition in front of the judges in Sydney. They said they would pay for flights, accommodation, taxis and breakfast for my whole family. I crunched the numbers and […]
International Women’s Day 2016
Happy International Women’s Day! I had the most exciting day today because my story was published in a book by Clare McAlaney of Creatavision Publishing and launched at the International Women’s day Lunch at Fraser’s by Business Women Australia! So much excitement!! The event was totally sold out, with 160 tickets bought the week before the event! I feel so grateful and humbled and thankful to be included in the amazing book ‘16 Inspirational WA Women’. The book features the […]
